Amazon customers have asked the CEO to take down Donald Trump collection from its online marketplace in a letter.
Amazon Inc. is the reigning monarch of American online shopping and it has been for the past few years. The company does not have a good name amongst the employees due to several cases and scandals however it surely is one of the most preferred destinations for the online shoppers. Amazon provides ultimate benefits to its loyal customers and vowed to make their money worth the service. In short, it values the online shoppers, which, is the key to success in the tough e-commerce sector. However the same customers are now making things hard for the Chief Executive of the US online retail giant, Jeff Bezos. According to the news, it is believed that more than 13,000 customers have asked Jeff Bezos in a signed petition to cut ties with Donald Trump as soon as possible. A women’s rights group known as Ultra Violet came up with this petition which was specifically addressed to the Amazon CEO. The petition strictly opposed the selling of menswear from the Donald J. Trump Collection. As of now, Mr. Trump has eight items listed on the online marketplace for selling purposes. The letter to Jeff Bezos stated, “As an Amazon customer, I am deeply disappointed that you have yet to sever your business relationship with Donald Trump. His hatred should have no place in the Amazon marketplace.” Donald Trump announced his presidential candidacy last year and ever since then many people, companies, and media outlets have distance themselves from the billion dollar businessman. The hatred and the personality Donald Trump poses on the US citizens and the rest of the world is purely negative. Hence the customers are in no way in mood to be connected with the political figure. Many companies and media outlets did change their way of business if it was linked to Donald Trump previously. For instance, Macy stopped the sales of Donald Trump collection from its stores and also pulled the clothing line from its shelves. The petition urged Amazon CEO, “It's long past time for Amazon to follow Macy's lead, sever its ties with Trump, and stop profiting off of his brand of hate. He has encouraged violence at his rallies, mocked his opponent's wife, and even refused to denounce his campaign manager who was recently arrested for violently assaulting a female reporter.” As of yet, the spokesmen for Amazon and the Trump’s campaign have not provided with the comments on this matter. It is believed that if Amazon decides to pull down Trump clothing line, it would still be making a lot of money from the same collection. This is because of the other sellers selling Donald Trump collection on the online marketplace. If a customer types and searches ‘Trump’ on Amazon website then more than 44,600 searches would come. Out of these searches, nearly 15 percent are Amazon Prime eligible as well. Twitter was caught testing new designs for its application which indicates that changes are expected.Twitter has been caught testing material designs of its android application on mobile phones and tablets. This will not be a shocker for the users since the micro blogging site has made changes to its design in the past. It does this to test UI tweaks with the help of server side, this time a better and more materialistic interface will be coming out with a navigation menu and a floating action button.
The social media network plans to update its android outlet. For now, it does look like a modified version of the iOS application. It could actually use a new update to make itself better and catchier and make itself more suitable for Android. Leaked images show that the update will give the application a new FAB button which is going to make it easier to move from home to other features of the application. Twitter Inc. is late in updating the app while many others added the FAB button a while ago. The UI will get a server side switch, which is for now only visible to officially enrolled users in the alpha testing program. The rest of the users will have to wait for the update to roll out in order to see the changes when it is available on Google Play. The social media advertising giant will adopt the Android 5.0 lollipop like its rivals have done. A developer named, Hernan Castanon Alvarez, of the XDA community even uploaded a video on YouTube showing the changes made to the application. The video shows the format and the pattern of the tabs in the application at the top in order and even the FAB button at the bottom. It is only fair that android owners experience a new material deigns of Twitter app as iOS users have a better application in comparison. The new face of the application according to the video of the developer does show a needed progress, all we can do is wait for this to finally find out. The clean interface might get the inactive android users back to the social media platform which is just what it needs. Users should keep their eyes and notifications for the play store open this month. The timing for this update cannot be more perfect as the social media platform managed to win the contract to live stream the national game of the US. The NFL game is going to make wonders for the micro blogging giant. Conocophillips is planning to close its North Sea gas operations which will damage UK's gas production.ConocoPhillips has indicated that it plans to shut down the Lincolnshire gas operations and the Theddlethorpe gas terminal but now immediately. This action is coming due to the energy company products prices being damagingly low and can be considered as an attempt to save extra expenditures. If it implements on these plans, this move can damage the gas production of the United Kingdom by 10%.
Many oil companies are taking actions to protect their business while they suffer from the low oil price, which has also led to ConocoPhillips pulling the plug on such a major pipeline. For now, it only reviews its options but if it shuts the pipeline down, the future of Lincolnshire and Theddlethorpe is doubtful. These areas are mature enough with rich fields of oil and gas, but now this is coming to a sad end since the oil organizations have sucked almost everything out of these fields since the operations have been going on since 1970s. Lincolnshire is in the list of top 15 major gas networks in the United Kingdom, meaning that if the gas company shut its operations down in the North Sea, this would end up damaging 10 of the oil fields including Anglia and Audrey of this area, which depend on the pipeline. The oil company is cooperating with Oil and Gas Authority, and analyzing other gas shippers and shareholders for the pipeline. This move comes as the oil and Gas Company thrives to succeed in the oil industry due to low prices of its produce. Its plans of shutting down the terminal and the pipeline is not only going to damage the UK market and the field of the area but even the locals as they will end up losing their jobs if this does happen including Mapplethorpe, which is where 150 of the organizations employees are from. The energy giant has announced that its plans are not going to be immediate, however many gas fields that were being operated under it in Theddlethorpe have stopped their productions. A spokeswoman for OGA did disclose that it recognizes the significance of the terminal and is working hard with shareholders for as much recovery as possible. ConocoPhillips stock closed at $39.78 on April 1, Friday. The price of oil has already fallen to $115 per barrel back in 2014 and now $39 per barrel this week forcing companies from the oil industry to save any extra costs. UK has lost 65,000 job from this markets fall and 43% of its oil fields will still be working at a loss if these conditions remain and the price of crude oil remain at $30 for this year too. In order to protect millions of devices, Apple wants to know the undisclosed security flaw.Last month when FBI, through the court order, asked for Apple’s assistance to unlock an iPhone, the tech giant openly refused. After the turn of events on Monday, the tech titan has landed on the receiving end of the assistance.
On Monday, the FBI disclosed that it has finally unlocked the iPhone 5C, which belonged to Syed Rizwan Farook – one of the shooters in San Bernardino attacks, without any form of assistance from the Cupertino, Calif. firm. The law enforcement agency did not disclose the identity of the outside third party that had assisted the FBI in doing the inevitable. The agency hasn’t unveiled the extent of the information rendered from the smartphone. Nevertheless, the government’s breakthrough has put the iPhone maker into hot weathers as an unidentified security flaw could possibly put millions of devices at risk. The product counsel at security software maker AVG Technologies, Justin Olsson, cited that Apple ought to find out the details about the recent security bypass. He added that the government could prudently solve the matter by secretly disclosing the products vulnerability to the tech company so that it can bolster up the security of its devices. The government is obviously not following this suit. In such situations, generally, the government quite often buys or creates the hacking techniques for counterterrorism efforts and law enforcement in order to use them without informing the affected companies. What secludes the matter from the rest is the amount of popularity it has received. Majority of people across the world have been following the news when in late February, the government made it public that it is in dire need of Apple’s assistance to unlock the phone in order to fill the void it has in its timeline of criminals activities. When Apple rejected to provide such assistance, tension broke out between the Washington and the Silicon Valley. Both parties exchanged harsh comments during the hearings that, at times, heated. Now since the FBI had achieved for what it was seeking out Apple’s help and had dropped the case, the question remains whether the company could be informed about the inherent vulnerability or should the government use it as a scapegoat for the fighting against the crime. It is still unknown whether the current method could potentially hack into other versions of the iPhone; the government hasn’t said anything about it as such. An anonymous law enforcement official has cited the “FBI’s hacking techniques’ applications were limited.” Several news outlets have also cited anonymous sources forwarding the information that the Israeli police technology maker, Cellebrite had been the outside third party helping the government but the FBI and the Israeli company haven’t confirmed the specs. An unauthorized source has disclosed to The Times that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was provided with 10 guesses for the passwords without permanently tarnishing the accessibility of the phone’s data. This gave the chance to the agency to go through possible pass codes until it finally get the correct one. Apple’s attorneys are still on the lookout for the legal precedents, which can put the pressure on the government to turn over the specifics of the hacking techniques. As of Tuesday, the company had no update on its progress. The biotech giant has appealed against the damages it has to pay over the patent infringement.
Gilead Sciences, Inc. has been subpoenaed to pay $200 million in damages to Merck& Co. for the Hepatitis C drugs patents infringement, according to the orders given by the federal jury in a patent trial. The damages awarded are significantly lower than what the Kenilworth, New Jersey based firm had initially demanded. But, the trial has not exhausted yet and it has transitioned into a new phase. The San Jose Californian jury has still to decide whether the pharmaceutical company is eligible for seeking the royalties on the sales of the biotech giants blockbuster HCV drugs, Sovaldi and Harvoni. The pharmaceutical company, Merck, has most recently debuted Zepatier –its hepatitis C drug. The company claims that the active ingredient “sofosbuvir” used in Gilead blockbuster drug relates to the patent the company and its partner Ionis Pharmaceuticals lodged in 2002. Sovaldi and Harvoni, at the moment, are among the top-grossing medicine franchises across the world. The two drugs generated the colossal worldwide revenue of $19.1 billion in the year 2015 which accumulated to be two-thirds of Gilead Sciences total revenue. Initially, Merck sought for the damages which amounted to be 10% of the Gilead’s drugs US sales through the end of 2015. As per the proposed calculation the damages totaled to be around $23.1 billion. It has also filed claiming the 10% royalties of the two drugs US sales since the inception of 2016. According to the official statement released by the biotech giant the biologic drug maker will, if the judge upholds the decision, appeal against the $200 million damages awarded to Merck by the jury who passed the order on Thursday night. Moreover, the Foster City, Calif. firm didn’t accept Merck’s patent claims. It cited that the company had absolutely zero involvement in the development and discovery of sofosbuvir. Neither had it taken any risk for the same therefore the company rightfully reject the validity of the Merck patents and believes that Merck is not eligible to claim damages. Contrary to the biotech titan beliefs, the federal judge, however, has found Gilead guilty of patent infringement. Later on Tuesday, the jury supported the validity of the patents filed in 2002 for “compounds and methods” relating to the patients inflicted with the hepatitis C virus by Merck and Ionis Pharmaceuticals. Gilead had earlier claimed that it only gets the access to sofosbuvir when it acquired Pharmasset in 2011. The company further cleared that the acquired company had been working on the development of the sofosbuvir since 2001 which is around a year earlier than when Merck’s patent was filed in 2002. However, Merck rejected such claims and has presented its view stating that the Pharmasset actually used the information presented in the 2002 patents on which the company along with it Carlsbad, Calif. based partner spent substantial amount of money and significant years working. Merck has expressed that it was the biotech giant, Gilead, who began the suit by seeking a judgment against the Merck’s claims of the patent infringement and to declare that the company’s patents are invalid. Late Thursday, the New Jersey based company said: “The jury’s verdict upholds patent protections that are essential to the development of new medical treatments.” Gilead’s drugs revolutionized the medicine industry with its 8-12 weeks treatment span of life threatening hepatitis C disease. More than 95% patients have been cured through the drug. The only restraint the drugs earlier had was its high price. Gilead has not yet given any statement relating to the court’s verdict and it is still “going on.” However the company is quite confident about appealing against the decision. Details regarding Samsung new operating system will be revealed at the conference next month.Samsung has been ramping up its IoT game since a while, while making all kinds of headlines. Now it plans to develop an entirely new operating system for Internet of Things. The South Korean tech giant will make it an open source, playing a major role in smart homes, wearable gadgets and other smart electronics that can be managed via IoT.
The Galaxy maker is going to provide further details regarding this new OS next month at the developers’ conference in San Francisco. The open source OS by the tech company is expected to conduct easy tasks efficiently without any human intervention, such as an automatic smart door that can open/close on its own anytime it detects someone coming in or going out. The real-time operating system will consist of a variety of features and service but it will stay lightweight. Samsung’s upcoming creation for IoT still does not have a name, but its potential is already known. Hence, the element of surprise is not the main attraction here. This upcoming system will make everything smarter, helping customers take another step forward towards innovation and convenience. It will even save time since it will not need any human help and will carry on the tasks rapidly without any delay. The fact that this operating system is going to be an open source one will help the South Korean organization to make its presence even stronger in the market and enabling more interoperability between different IoT electronics. This OS is expected to be highly similar to Tizen that is seen in TVs and smart watches. Samsung has further plans of making more electronics that will be compatible in functionality with IoT. For now, IoT devices are expensive but that is going to change with the passage of time. The tech organization will even offer Artik boards for the construction of smart electronics which will enable developers to connect SAMI cloud service. This can prove to be very helpful for various tasks such as the air conditioner turning on automatically in the summer once the OS receives data regarding the temperature via a smart meter. Once it is able to gather data, it will even be smart enough to analyze health. Samsung bought a startup known as SmartThings in 2014. The firm launched a smart home kit in 2015, which was the step into IoT devices at houses. The tech company might be able to be the leader in IoT if it keeps doing what it is right now. Boeing passenger planes 737 had to make an emergency landing in Moscow due to reports of technical issues.Boeing might get into trouble when it comes to reliability of its jets; this is the second time a technical fault has led to unfortunate decision by the pilot this week. A plane crash was reported in Russia killing 62, as it was 250 meter short of runway. Now another product of the airplane maker has to make an emergency landing in Moscow after it was alarmed of a technical problem.
The aerospace company 737 was leaving from Moscow, going to Surgut, but the pilot had to take the decision of going back, touching down at 11:30PM, local time. UTair Russian Company was operating the plane. The plane took off and was on the way to its destination for two hours, but it had to come back as the alarm signaled vibration in the engine. Boeing Co. 737 consisted of 112 passengers on board. It took off from Vnukovo. The technical problems in the jet led to the activation of the alarm and the pilot had to take actions. Another incident recently took place in the company’s jet that led to the loss of 62 lives, out of which seven of these passengers were the crewmembers. FlyDubai flew that plane. The flight, UT247’s captain burned out the fuel of the jet for two hours after which he landed the plane back on Moscow. The good news is that the jet landed safely after circling at 2,000 meters above the region for a while. The emergency crew was all set at the airport waiting for the flight to make its landing. When the passengers were questioned, they said that they heard ‘bangs’ half an hour after the plane took off under the wing; later they said they saw a flash. They informed how some passengers even took anxiety medications because of no one in the crew telling them what actually was going on. Boeing has to be extra careful and make sure its products are as reliable and functional as possible. Another crash that took place while 737 was being operated by FlyDubai, FZ981, on the aerospace giant’s 737-800, now the blood samples of the deceased are being taken from the relatives. The crash took place due to harsh and unfavorable weather conditions. Other reasons such as pilot error and technical problems are also being taken into consideration and the crash is under investigation. Thankfully, this time the pilot managed to land the jet back without any crash or loss of life. |
