Samsung launched a new advertisement featuring Hannibal Buress using the mobile payment feature of the company.Samsung recently launched its own mobile payments application known as, Samsung Pay, which has added a wide variety of merchants, financial institutions and shops from everywhere. The South Korean tech giant launched an advertisement promoting the application featuring the known comedian, Hannibal Buress, who mocks Apple’s own mobile payments application, indicating that it does not work everywhere unlike the company’s application.
The Galaxy maker’s contactless payments services have huge competition in the game by many other companies who have their own application for their users. However, the advertisement clearly shows that the tech business is not afraid of its rival and is all set to enter the race conveniently.
The advertisement launched by Samsung shows Hannibal Buress entering Katz Deli in New York with his mobile phone. He wants to place an order and pay through his phone but the shopkeeper replies when he asks to pay from his phone, “You mean like Apple Pay? Yeah, we don’t have that.” This reply by the staff is an indirect remark to the tech giant biggest rival in the industry.
After the staff’s reply, Hannibal takes out his Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 smartphone, and puts it near the credit/debit card machine. As soon as he puts his phone near it, Samsung Pay app works and the staff cheers with him, showing that its mobile payments service can work anywhere and everywhere, even at the smallest of places one does expect it to.
This advertisement can be watched on YouTube, and unlike other advertisements, it is not long but less than even a minute. It is more like a promotional ad and has been given a touch of reality. The reason for Samsung Pay App to work when placed near the machine was that unlike other payments service, it could even work on the older traditional magnetic strip tech, whereas other services only consist of the NFC tech, which provides more security, or the chip and pin terminals.
The traditional magnetic strip compatibility enables the signal to be sent to card readers just like data being read from the strip of any credit or debit card. This advertisement is also an open challenge to Apple Pay App, and the South Korean giant is portrayed as winning the competition so far by providing customers with more options and more compatibility at small places.
The advertisement is not technical and can be understood by all audiences, even the ones who are not tech savvy.
