eBay has rolled out an update that gives an option to donate to charity.
eBay Inc. has always been one of the largest online retail stores that have been under the limelight to attract many customers. The company does not only buy and sell but also gives an option to online auction a customer’s product on its platform. Irrespective of the fact that it has lost its charm in recent times, it keeps on nudging its peers and competitors above it. The online retailer currently trails Amazon by miles in the domestic market. However, it does not give up hope and plans to do best.
The company’s latest step is quite generous if one thinks it neutrally. It has not targeted this in any competitive way or such but it is doing for a good cause. According to sources, the company’s latest update adds a new option, which is named as ‘Sell for Charity’ for its markets in the United States and United Kingdom. Many people have a habit of clearing their houses quite often and then sell the good stuff, which is no longer used by them, whether online or at some local exhibition.
Now eBay gives an option to all these people to do charity work if they feel generous. With an option added to sell products to charity, the company will give a choice to customers to sell it rather to charity than on EBay. Through this, customers can make charitable contributions at the same time as well.
eBay launched its latest update of the app in which customers can donate to charity directly from the proceeds from their sold items. When a user is about to list any item on eBay.com, there is an option to either switch on or off the Sell for Charity option in preferences. If it is kept on, users will be directed to a donation tab where they can pick a certain charity they would like to donate, and designate the percentage of the price that they plan to donate to that charity. The percentage points vary by five figures; hence, it starts from 5 and goes up to 100.
According to The Next Web, “As you type in the name of the charity, the app offers a number of prompts that locate the one you’re looking for. My own Defenders of Wildlife came up immediately as part of eBay Giving Works, which lets you either, give a percentage of the asking price to charity or buy items that benefit charities.”
So far, the company has launched this update for only its US and UK markets; however, it is available for both iOS and Android users.
