Facebook has made several changes to WhatsApp to intrigue users.
Facebook Inc.’s WhatsApp messaging platform is going through some big changes. It has just been less than a week since they went through an overhaul in terms of the in-app costs.
WhatsApp at this point of time has almost a billion active users who now have to share their data on the social media platform. The service is immensely popular amongst the masses and is widely used all over the globe with a great reputation amongst consumers.
Javier Santos who is a renowned developer has devised the new offering that will be featured in the recent beta version of WhatsApp for Android. Screenshots were posted by the developer on the Google+ page. As per the new WhatsApp features, users can now share their WhatsApp account information with Facebook that will eventually improve the entire experience on the social network.
So far it is not quite clear what sort of information will actually be exchanged via the two services. However, the starting point for the exchange of information might be the Contact List. This indicates that you might just see a bunch of your WhatsApp contacts circulating as the suggested Friends whilst using FB.
It is still not clear if the content of your conversations on the messaging app will also be utilized to come up with suggestions on various Facebook Pages, Groups etc. Luckily, the recent beta also encompasses an option for end to end encryption. This vouches that the media and messaging via WhatsApp will get extremely secure in the times to come.
Moreover, the app has been upgraded and a new section has also been added for the Documents. This will accumulate all the files that have been shared with you from your WhatsApp contacts. The features are currently being tested by the company and might just not be there once the final update arrives.
So far all the rumors circulating are mere speculations with no sound proof. However, all these rumors will soon gain weightage once the feature is launched. The features are being tested currently so the final appearance solely relies on the results of the tests that are being conducted.
The news penetrated right after the company decided to announce regarding a drop of its yearly 99 cent subscription fee. As per the founder, Mr. Koum, the subscription model is not in favor of all the consumers. So other applications of similar nature such as the Facebook Messenger are free of cost making the subscription model quite vulnerable for the company. The Facebook owned service plans to replace the 99 cents fee by associating companies directly to the consumers through their application.
Mr. Koum has confirmed that the company has still not devised a final plan as of yet. However, by its current standing, WhatsApp has plans to bill big enterprise companies to regulate their calls and chats through this platform. For instance, an airline can make use of WhatsApp to communicate with clients about delays and flight cancellations effectively.
Irrespective of the changes being made, the goal of the company remains unanimous which is to avoid spam along with unwanted advertisement on its platform.
Back in 2014, Facebook decided to acquire WhatsApp for a hefty amount worth $19 billion; the company is currently testing the feature on its Messenger app. Certain companies biased in the United States have now been given the right to pay for the service so that they can approach consumers directly via the application.
Mr. Jan Koum and Brian Acton are the founders of WhatsApp and are known in the fraternity for being strictly against advertisements for the service.
According to the company’s official blog post devised by the founders, "We wanted to make something that wasn't just another ad clearinghouse.” They further added, "Advertising isn't just the disruption of aesthetics, the insults to your intelligence and the interruption of your train of thought.
All the companies that are involved in the selling of advertisements, a substantial segment of the time invested is spent by the team on data mining, devising ways to code in a manner that makes collection of personal data easier, improving servers that have the data store and ensuring that all activities are logged, accumulated, packaged and delivered on time. Thus, when the day ends, the advertisement is relatively different for the mobile screen and browser.
It needs to be remembered that when advertisement is encompassed, the product becomes the user. At WhatsApp, the team spends a great amount of time fixing the bugs, improving features and taking care of the minute details that make the service reliable, affordable and penetrated all over the globe.
"That's our product and that's our passion. Your data isn't even in the picture. We are simply not interested in any of it." Claim the founders who have a strong vision for WhatsApp.
